When a motor fails in an application, things can get tricky if there is no replacement motor in stock. If the motor is also older or not an off-the-shelf model – i.e. it has special installation features or equipment details – costs can quickly mount due to plant downtime or ships having to stay in port for longer. In such cases, BEN Buchele specialises in supplying tailor-made electric motors as replacements at short notice.
Our manufactory approach allows us to rebuild individual motors for a like-for-like replacement. For motors we have built ourselves, we keep replacement materials in stock based on our order history, so that we can start production immediately when a replacement request comes in. Third-party models can also benefit from this. For motors with standard IEC dimensions in particular, delivery times of just a few weeks are possible. For older models and special designs, delivery times may be longer depending on the availability of spare parts.
We can replace motors from the following brands:
- AEG
- Siemens
- Schorch
- Elin
- Loher
For makes from other manufacturers, we will work with you to develop an individual replacement solution.
Detailed order information for like-for-like replacements
To rebuild the replacement motor to all specifications, we need as much information as possible – the most important being the make, i.e. whether it is a BEN motor. In addition to the original nameplate showing the serial number and technical data (output, speed, voltage, degree of protection, duty type, etc.), we require details of the installation site, ambient conditions, mounting configuration and any additional functions (e.g. temperature sensors or anti-condensation heater).
Order history dating back to 1951
Even customers with decades-old BEN motors can count on our support in the event of a failure: our motor archive, containing all the technical details for every model we have ever sold, dates back to January 1951. This allows us to work out together whether a repair is worthwhile or, if not, build a suitable replacement motor based on the original specifications.
Adjustments to non-standard dimensions
If necessary, we make modifications so that the replacement motor fits properly. For non-standard dimensions (e.g. imperial dimensions), we can fit adapter flanges or adapter feet, or change the spacing of the drill holes for mounting the terminal box. Cast components can be replaced by welded constructions; here is an example from our production: motors for pump drives from the 1960s and 1970s featured a distinctive ‘lantern’ at the front – an elongated, cast flange end shield which was open and housed the pump unit. From the mid-1990s onwards, it was no longer possible to have this lantern cast, so we switched to a welded construction for building replacement motors.
